Conference Champions!

It was a big day at Gale Woods for a Wayzata sweep! Both the Varsity and JV won their respective races for the girls and boys. Way to go Trojans!

Abbey Nechanicky ran a historic race and a new course course record of 16:51.95. She was the lead runner in a varsity race with all five of Wayzata’s scoring runners in the top ten. They placed 1, 5, 6, 8, and 9 for a total score of only 29 points. Eight athletes from the varsity race got all-conference honors: Abbey Nechanicky, Teegan Anderson, Grace Mignone, Maddie Gullickson, Grace Weber, Aly Kleyman, Aubrey Smith, and Jazleen Malherek-Osorio. Way to go varsity runners!

The JV race was also a spectacle with a perfect score of 15 points! All five scoring runners finished under 21 minutes. There were some amazing personal records, and the coaches are so proud of all runners. We are looking forward to the next races: Grade Level Champs on Monday 10/24 and Section 6AAA on Wednesday 10/26.

September Race Highlights

It has been a great season so far, and we are excited for the upcoming races. Here are some highlights from our last few races in September.

At the Eden Prairie Metro Invite the varsity had a victory over Highland Park out scoring them by 8 points. JV also had a strong showing, finishing second to Highland Park. Our middle school team brought home the win with a nearly perfect score of 16 points.

The team then traveled West to Buffalo for an opportunity at at new race. The team was split between two races in two days, so the results at Buffalo are especially impressive. The varsity team placed 4th among some of the best teams in the state. JV had a commanding victory with some middle school additions. This was a fast course with a HUGE hill, so we are proud of the team for their grit.

Th following day the varsity crew had their chance to race at the Griak Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota. This race was as close as it could be with the team pulling out a one point victory against Cherry Creek. This shows that every place matters. We also had our first ever individual champion in Abbey Nechanicky. She blew the competition away with a 17:37.9 finish. The second place finisher was over 30 seconds behind her! This was quite the showing for a meet with so many nationally ranked teams.

We are excited for the month of October and all of the opportunities it will bring. See below for some photos to highlight September races.
